Here we are at the end of January, and the middle of a Manitoba deep freeze. We have an “extreme wind chill warning” in effect today, so it feels like -42 outside. And on that note, I think I’ll stay indoors and write about my clients. Here’s what they’ve been up to…

Amid the talk of Golden Globes and Oscars, the Canadian Screen Awards get handed out March 3. Dramatic TV series Blackstone has been nominated for three awards. Plenty of Manitoba productions have also been nominated for Canadian Screen Awards, including feature film Mad Ship(Best Costume Design), Less Than Kind (nominated in ten categories), Todd & The Book Of Pure Evil (nominated in six categories) and The Wrath of Grapes: The Don Cherry Story 2 (nominated for four awards, including a nod to Jared Keeso for Best Performance by Actor). Speaking of made-in-Manitoba movies… the highly anticipated biopic Jack, about late NDP leader Jack Layton, airs Sunday March 10at 8:00pm on CBC Television. The Peter Nykoluk Rowing Scholarship was recently handed out to two members of the Winnipeg Rowing Club. Marianne Bergmann and Kevin Kowalyk will share this year’s award, both of whom have distinguished themselves in the sport of rowing with remarkable accomplishments. www.winnipegrowingclub.ca
